Professional Background

Paul Colleran is the Managing Counsel of the Boston office of the IRS Office of Chief Counsel. As Managing Counsel, he is charged with cross-divisional oversight and leadership of the Boston office. Paul also serves as the Associate Area Counsel, Large Business & International Division, IRS Office of Chief Counsel, Boston where he oversees the litigation of some of the most important and complex domestic and international tax cases before the United States Tax Court. Earlier in his career as a trial attorney, Paul litigated dozens of cases encompassing a wide variety of complex, high profile tax matters including cases which involved issues of first impression. He also has extensive experience in all facets of Federal tax controversy including IRS examinations and appeals. Paul also advises IRS executives, managers, and examiners on some of the most difficult, important, and complex legal and policy matters concerning Federal tax administration and tax litigation. He started his career with the IRS as a revenue agent in Boston.

Mr. Colleran earned his LLM. (Taxation) from Boston University, his J.D. cum laude, from Suffolk University and a B.S, cum laude from Boston College, Carroll School of Management. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
