Professional Background

Robert Ronquillo Jr. has been the Chief Justice of the the Boston Municipal Court since 2014. Chief Justice Ronquillo is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Boston Municipal Court Department, overseeing 30 judges and approximately 470 employees, and is responsible for the fair administration of justice conducted in the eight courthouses that make up the Boston Municipal Court Department. Early on in his career, Chief Justice Ronquillo worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County. In 1995 he founded the Law Offices of Ronquillo and Associates, focusing his practice primarily on Criminal Defense and Plaintiff Personal Injury.

While in private practice, Ronquillo offered pro bono legal work for those in need and was also active in Latino issues in Chelsea and surrounding communities. He was also an active member of the Board of Directors of the Suffolk Lawyers for Justice, an organization responsible for providing representation to indigent criminal defendants in Suffolk County. In 2001, Governor A. Cellucci appointed Ronquillo as Associate Justice to the Dorchester District Court. Later on in 2007, Ronquillo was appointed First Justice of South Boston Division of the Boston Municipal Court, and in 2008 he was appointed First Justice of the East Boston Division of the Boston Municipal Court, where he served until his most recent appointment. Ronquillo has been teaching at New England Law since 2006.
