How many people can say that the United Nations threw them a party?

On October 21, 2018, the Irish Permanent Mission to the United Nations hosted a launch event for Professor Dina Haynes’ latest book, The Oxford Handbook of Gender and Conflict. The book’s co-editors—Nahla Valji, Senior Gender Adviser in the UN Executive Office of the Secretary-General, and Fionnuala Ní Aoláin, UN Special Rapporteur—spoke at the event.

Speakers also included Ambassador Geraldine Byrne Nason, Ireland's Permanent Representative to the UN; Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka; and UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict Pramila Patten (who also contributed a chapter to the book). The book launch coincided with the Women, Peace and Security gathering of nations at the UN Secretariat.
