Kathleen Culver, Assistant Director and Judicial Clerkships Coordinator

Kathleen Culver joined the CSO in September 2023 and serves as Assistant Director and Judicial Clerkships Coordinator. Kathleen helps students navigate the employment process by giving counseling, resume and cover letter reviews, and mock interviews. She also provides guidance to any students interested in seeking judicial clerkships. Kathleen holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame and she received her law degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After law school, Kathleen worked as a law clerk for the Chief Judge of the North Carolina Court of Appeals. After moving to Massachusetts, Kathleen worked for Mintz in their litigation section and in their employment law section. She then worked for a small employment law firm, Tamsin Kaplan and Associates. Kathleen also has professional experience writing grants for nonprofit organizations.

April Giancola, Director

April Giancola ('00) joined the CSO in June 2024. Before returning to her alma mater, she worked in law school career services at UNC School of Law in Chapel Hill, NC as the Director of Public interest Advising and at Campbell University School of Law in Raleigh, NC as the Assistant Dean of Career and Professional Development. April's career before academia included 16 years as a practicing attorney in AZ, DC and NC in different roles in the public sector. Some of her work encompassed indigent defense, pro bono technical support, civil legal services and disability rights advocacy. While not working, April volunteered with the NC Bar Assocation, Wake County Bar Association and the NC Advocates for Justice. She received her bachelor's degree in communications from Emerson College. April is the proud mom to a 14-year-old son who loves baseball and playing the saxophone. She sings in local choirs, writes plays and enjoys hiking. 

 

 

Jacqueline Giessler, Operations Director

 Jacqueline Giessler serves as Operations Coordinator of the Career Services Office. She has been with the Career Services Office since July 2024. Jacqueline received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan in 2023. She manages the Career Advising Network (CAN), the main CSO email inbox, as well as other daily and yearly tasks for the office.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Hanna Kim, Assistant Director of Career Services and Legal Recruitment Coordinator

Hanna Kim joined the CSO in January 2024 and serves as Assistant Director and Legal Recruitment Coordinator.  Hanna counsels law students about career goals and helps navigate them through the employment process.  As the Legal Recruitment Coordinator, Hanna also directs the law school’s recruitment related activities. Hanna began her legal career with Updike, Kelly & Spellacy in Connecticut, and later worked as an Associate at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith.  Much of her legal career has been with the in-house legal departments of multinational corporations, including with Samsung in Seoul, Korea, leading cross-border projects, completing complex corporate transactions, and managing international disputes.  Hanna received her JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law and her MA in Social Work from Columbia University.  Hanna is a 2023-2024 National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) Leadership Advancement Program fellow.  She also serves as a director for the Connecticut Asian Pacific American Bar Association (CAPABA) and on the DEI Committee of the Community Dispute Settlement Center based in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Patrick Niebauer, Assistant Director and Pro Bono Coordinator

Patrick Niebauer joined the CSO in November 2023. In addition to working with students to help them navigate the employment process via counseling, resume and cover letter reviews, and mock interviews, Patrick also serves as the office's Pro Bono Coordinator, helping students with pro bono, public interest, and government opportunities. Patrick directs our public sector advising and programming, leads the law school's Pro Bono Program, and manages the Public Service Transcript Notation Program and MA SJC Pro Bono Honor Roll. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Arts in English and Creative Writing from Colgate University and received his law degree from Suffolk University Law School. He has a background in public interest law, having worked in the affordable housing and community development field for over 15 years before joining the CSO. Patrick started as a paralegal with Preservation of Affordable Housing, Inc., a national non-profit developer of affordable housing based in Boston, where he worked while attending law school as an evening student. He then began his career as a practicing attorney with Nolan Sheehan Patten LLP, a boutique firm focused on representing developers and funders of affordable housing across Massachusetts. In this capacity, Patrick represented state and municipal agencies, including the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities (formerly DHCD) and the City of Boston. He then worked in a similar role for KJP Partners LLP and then went back in-house, most recently working as a Staff Attorney for The Community Builders, Inc. in Boston before joining the CSO. Patrick has also successfully represented pro bono clients in matters involving the U.S. Social Security Administration, the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance, and the Internal Revenue Service.

Jennifer Simpson, Associate Director

Jennifer Simpson serves as the Associate Director of Career Services. She has been at NELB since summer of 2022 and loves helping students prepare for professional success! Jennifer attended IU McKinney School of Law in Indianapolis, graduating in spring 2013. As a mid-career professional during law school, she especially enjoyed clinical opportunities, earning the Clinical Student of the Year award in 2013. She has worked in government and public interest including Indiana Legal Services, the Indiana Department of Education, the City of Cambridge Legal Department, and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She also clerked for Judge Mark Smith, Hendricks County, Indiana, Superior Court. She earned a Master of Arts in Communication and Rhetorical Studies from Idaho State University and taught at Idaho State as an adjunct lecturer from 2000 to 2007. Jennifer is married to Darrin Simpson and they have 5 children, 3 in-laws, and 5 grandchildren. Come by and say hello!
