Competitors Gain Real-World Skills
New England Law fields strong advocacy and skills teams in an array of legal interest areas, and in recent years we've placed highly in national competitions, claimed first place in Oral Advocacy, and brought home major awards in the Best Advocate, Best Oralist, Top Speaker, and Legal Briefs categories. We take great pride in these triumphs, but the real payoff comes from students’ improved writing and legal skills, which give them distinct advantages in their careers.

Advocacy events also introduce students to the legal community and demonstrate their potential to future employers through contact with the practicing attorneys and jurists who coach and judge competitions.
“I would advise other students to participate on advocacy and skills teams, because it is a great experience,” said Leslie Luna De Lara, Graduate. “It has provided me with knowledge that most lawyers would love to have. It’s an opportunity to perfect our skills and work with professors who truly care about making us better.”
Preparation Leads to Increased Confidence
Professors coach our students for advocacy competitions, taking them through the intense and rewarding advocacy skills trainings that lead to their competitive success.
Trial advocacy team selection criteria, related course work, and competition availability may vary from year to year. For more information about advocacy teams and moot court/mock trial opportunities at New England Law, please contact us.
About the Program
The opportunities that the program presents are made possible with the help of a generous donation from the Colgan Foundation. In honor of their support, the program was officially renamed The Colgan Foundation Advocacy and Skills Competitions Program in Summer of 2021.
